Robin West Smith


Robin West Smith is a native Detroiter and is a product of the Detroit Public School System. Robin earned several credits toward an Associate’s Degree from Wayne County Community College District (WCCCD), but was never able to complete it. After two decades of child-rearing, she transferred her credits from WCCCD to Wayne State University (WSU) and completed her Bachelor's Degree in Economics. She has completed her Masters in Urban Planning with a concentration in Metropolitan Growth Management and a Certificate in Economic Development. Robin also completed a second Master of Arts with a major in Sociology and is a certified trainer with the Professional Women Network in Kentucky, co-authoring seven books for PWN Publishing. She is now focusing her studies on completing a Graduate Certificate in Nonprofit Management and has been appointed to the Monroe County Community College (Michigan) Board of Directors for its nonprofit, The Foundation. This is the first time an Adjunct Professor has received this prestige appointment.

 

After completing almost 30 years in Corporate America working in the Information Technology industry, she decided it was time to share her lived experiences with others and is currently teaching Sociology courses at Monroe County Community College. She will be following through on her dream of helping more women reach their potential with her business venture, Women Who RISE, LLC., focusing on helping women who lost a job as result of the COVID-19 Pandemic. 

 

Robin is conscientious and organized which has helped her in every venture she has undertaken. With these traits, Robin embraces challenges as opportunities for growth.  She strives routinely for professionalism and excellence and puts maximum effort into every task she performs. Her civic commitments have included being a member of the NAACP, the Project Management Institute, the Detroit Entrepreneurial Institute, the Association of Business Women (ABWA), the Women of Virtue Development Institute, and the Wayne State Alumnus. She has spoken at numerous Boys & Girls Club Career Day events for various Detroit middle and high schools.
